ORA-01722 Occurs When Executing A Select Containing TO_NUMBER ON A Varchar Column (Doc ID 1989604.1)

A JDBC application is not able to execute a query containing TO_NUMBER on a varchar column, and fails with error:

ORA-01722: invalid number

The error only occurs in certain servers, while on others the same select statement succeeds.
