BAM 12c : For an External DIM DO, when changing column name, a Java.sql.SQLException is generated

After applying patch 20494863, when creating an external data object a radio button appears for selecting "fact" or "dimension".
If you choose "dimension" and the configuration tabs you are able to modify the display name of the columns.
After changing the name to something more friendly and when attempting to populate the data a pop-up window with the following error will display:

              java.sql.SQLException: Invalid Column Name

in the bam_server1-diagnostic.log the following ERROR is generated:
