ADFdi Installer fails with ArgumentOutOfRangeException (Doc ID 2013049.1)

Symptoms

While attempting to install the ADFdi client on a given machine, you get an error similar to:

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.
