User is unable to see any of the assigned Cases after being added to the Case (Doc ID 2039808.1)

Goal

The user is unable to see any of the assigned Cases after being added to the  Case using the plus icon.  This happens when the user is added directly to the Case using the "+" in the Stakeholders tab, rather than to an existing Stakeholder using the pencil icon. When  the user is added this way (with the "+"), it results in a user being added to a new Stakeholder role. When the user navigates to this Case, it shows an error and then it appears that the Case screen is frozen.
