Oracle Unified Directory (OUD) Server Instance Slow to Catch Up on Replication Changes After Reinitialization (Doc ID 2042530.1)

We had an OUD instance which had been offline for weeks. We restored from a backup that was days old, and found we had millions of changes to catch up on when it was restarted. This process of catching up went quickly at first. We could see that replication was going well and so was the 'catching up' process, until suddenly we noticed the process of 'catching up' was continuing, but slowed down.
