Last updated on APRIL 20, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Forms for OCI - Version 12.2.1.4.0 and later
Generic UNIX

Symptoms

When designing a report using Oracle Reports 11gR2 on the MS Windows platform containing a trademark symbol and porting it to the Unix platform for deployment and running the report to pdf output, an upside down (or inverted) question mark is displayed in the report output instead of the trademark symbol.

That is, when run reports on unix, you can get the Registered Trademark, chr(174), ®, and the Copyright symbol, chr(169),©, to display in reports, but the Trademark symbol, chr(153),™, shows up as an inverted '?'.

You have already set up fonts per instructions in:
<Note:852698.1> How to Use TTF Fonts for Font Metrics On Unix With Reports 11g

Steps to Reproduce:

NOTE: The example(s) provided are for demonstration purposes only and represents fictitious

data. Any similarity to actual data, web sites and / or persons, living or dead, is purely

coincidental and not intended in any manner.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Create report based on query:

3. You will see the ® © symbols in the output, but instead of ™ you will see inverted "?".
