Goal

When using TopLink's internal connection pooling (default pooling), TopLink relies on the availability of open connections in the pool to allow communication with the database. TopLink will automatically open and close these connections when it deems it necessary. There are, however, some cases where those connections may close unexpectedly. For instance, connections may be lost either when a connection times out, or when there is a database failure. There are two suggested ways of handling lost connections with TopLink.

It is recommend to use the first solution as it is more efficient.

This note does not apply to users of external connection pooling, as the container's will maintain the connections.
