"Cannot translate the asset: null" or "Cannot copy the asset: null" Error Encountered When Trying To Copy/translate An Asset (Doc ID 2071185.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 28, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Sites - Version 11.1.1.6.1 to 11.1.1.6.1 [Release FatWire]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Upon copying or translating an asset of a specific flex definition (subtype) or has certain flex attribute(s) in the Contributor UI, users are getting errors:

"Cannot translate the asset: null"

or

"Cannot copy the asset: null".

Due to Bug 16329533 : CONTRIBUTOR UI DISPLAYS "CANNOT COPY THE ASSET: NULL" WITH NO FURTHER DETAIL, the error message doesn't provide helpful info in WebCenter Sites 11.1.1.6.x.

If the same asset is present in a WebCenter Sites 11.1.1.8.0 instance, when Copy/Translate operation is performed, you are expected to see:

"Cannot copy the asset: You must specify a unique value for attribute_name. Asset is not saved. Please make changes and save again. If problem persists please contact system administrator."

or

"Cannot translate the asset: You must specify a unique value for attribute_name. Asset is not saved. Please make changes and save again. If problem persists please contact system administrator."

Changes

The flex definition has an optional, single-valued (unique) flex attribute configured.

The assets that are having the problem have a value in the single-valued (unique) flex attribute field.
