Java Warnings From Sunstudio/Solstudio IDE with JDK 8 (Doc ID 2097814.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 05, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle Solaris Studio - Version 12.4 to 12.4 [Release 12]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4

When JDK 8 is used to run the "sunstudio"/"solstudio" IDE, the following warnings are emitted during startup.

% /opt/solarisstudio12.4/bin/sunstudio --jdkhome /usr/jdk1.8.0
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option PermSize=64m; support was removed in 8.0
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option MaxPermSize=400m; support was removed in 8.0

This problem can be observed when using Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4, the beta of Oracle Solaris Studio 12.5, or any earlier version with JDK 8.
Oracle Solaris Studio 12.3 and earlier are not certified with JDK 8.

JDK 8 no longer has a separate perm generation; there is only the main Java heap in JDK 8.
