Symptoms
Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4
Problem:
When JDK 8 is used to run the "sunstudio"/"solstudio" IDE, the following warnings are emitted during startup.
% /opt/solarisstudio12.4/bin/sunstudio --jdkhome /usr/jdk1.8.0
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option PermSize=64m; support was removed in 8.0
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option MaxPermSize=400m; support was removed in 8.0
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option PermSize=64m; support was removed in 8.0
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option MaxPermSize=400m; support was removed in 8.0
Changes
This problem can be observed when using Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4, the beta of Oracle Solaris Studio 12.5, or any earlier version with JDK 8.
Oracle Solaris Studio 12.3 and earlier are not certified with JDK 8.
JDK 8 no longer has a separate perm generation; there is only the main Java heap in JDK 8.
