Last updated on NOVEMBER 14, 2020

Applies to:

Java SE JDK and JRE - Version 6 to 7 [Release 6 to 7]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

This issue can present as either an OutOfMemory crash or as a performance issue with full garbage collections cycling over and over again due to an increasing number of live JPEGImageWriter or JPEGImageReader objects.  Analysis of a heap dump shows that a large portion of the Java heap is consumed by com/sun/imageio/plugins/jpeg/JPEGImageWriter or com/sun/imageio/plugins/JPEGImangeReader objects.

Affects Java versions:

Java SE 6u45 - 6u51

Java SE 7u21 - 7u40
