opmnctl status Fails With "java: Symbol JLI_MemAlloc, Version SUNWprivate_1.1 Not Defined In File"

(Doc ID 2150476.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 08, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Fusion Middleware - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

opmnctl start and stop work, and it appears from the logs or Fusion Middleware Control that the system component(s) managed by opmn are up.  Only the status option of opmnctl gives the following message when running:

./opmnctl status

/<path to ORACLE_HOME>/jdk/bin/java: relocation error: /<path to ORACLE_HOME>/jdk/bin/java: symbol JLI_MemAlloc, version SUNWprivate_1.1 not defined in file libjli.so with link time reference

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. try getting opmn managed process status with opmnctl status. The error occurs immediately.

2. Check the status of the opmn managed components in Fusion Middleware Control or via log files and see that they are up and running.

The issue has the following business impact:
Due to this issue, users cannot see the status of system components via opmnctl status. There are some possible workarounds but they are not as convenient as the command line option.
