Exalogic Virtual OL 6 Guest vServers Takes Long Time To Load Kernel During Bootup Getting Stuck With "Booting from Hard Disk..." Message (Doc ID 2158823.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 14, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software - Version 2.0.6.1.2 to 2.0.6.2.4
Linux x86-64
Oracle Virtual Server x86-64

Symptoms

In Exalogic virtual racks, OL 6 Guest vServers with UEK2 (2.6.39.XXX)  starts up successfully and status is shown as "running" from EMOC.

However it takes around 20 minutes approximately to get into login prompt from SSH or using "xm console <uuid>".

When launching Virtual console from EMOC or OVMM, we notice that vServer startup is hanging at "Booting from Hard Disk..." as shown below.

Changes

Issue occurred after upgrading OEL6 vServers to January PSU 2016. This issue can happen on earlier 2.0.6.x PSUs than Jan 2016 PSU as well.
