GlassFish Server fails to update image in closed Network Patch during upgrade (Doc ID 2172168.1)

Oracle GlassFish Server - Version 3.1.2 to 3.1.2 [Release 3.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On GlassFish Server version 3.1.2.10 install during the upgrade,

Fails to update GlassFish image in closed network patch.

On GlassFish 3.1.2.10 installation, if one tries to:

a) Deploy the pkg-toolkit-2.3-b56-sunos-sparc.zip to update the pkg toolkit
b) Start the pkg.depotd which points to the 3.1.2.15 patch distribution
c) Update GlassFish installation once
d) The second time if you try to update the same GlassFish installation, you will receive the following error:

ConstraintException: Package pkg-toolkit-incorporation contains constraint incompatible with constraint in installed package pkg-extra-tools
proposed: Pkg pkg: Optional min_version: 1.122.2,5.11-57 max version: 1.122.2,5.11-57 defined by: pkg:/pkg-toolkit-incorporation
installed: Pkg pkg: Optional min_version: 1.122.2,5.11-58 max version: None defined by: pkg:/pkg-extra-tools

 
e) If you try this on Windows, the second attempt to update just says that No action is required because already up-to-date.


The Errors look similar as below:

For embedding the Oracle GlassFish you may try to create a single template distribution on Windows that you embed in your products run on the Solaris, RHEL and Windows platforms. On this template distribution you restore the platform specific pkg toolkit".
