Second Level Approval Task Assignee Group Is Overridden By First Level Approver

You have customized the ApprovalTask in your composite for two levels of approval. The task for each level of approval is assigned to a group. You observe that after the first level of approval has been completed, it appears that the first level approver is the assignee for the second level. For example, here we have two levels of approval, each level assignee is a group:
When the task is first assigned, you see that it is assigned to the first group cats:
When the task is claimed by a member of the cats group, Faustine Fauxpaws, the task history now looks like this:
After Ms. Fauxpaws approves the request, it passes to the second level of approval and it is now assigned to the second group dogs:
However, if you notice in the display, it almost appears as if the task is assigned again to Faustine Fauxpaws.
