Java.lang.NullPointerException Being Thrown When Trying to Create Recon Events Using Custom Code (Doc ID 2192102.1)

Symptoms

When creating recon events using custom code by calling the reconciliation API such as ReconciliationResult results = reconIntf.createReconciliationEvents(ba, inputData), it fails with
java.lang.NullPointerException with no other stack trace around it:
