Fusion Middleware Infrastructure installation Fails With the Error "gnome-settings-daemongnome-session: Fatal IO error nwam-manager" (Doc ID 2196511.1)

When trying to install Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure OR WebLogic 12.2.1 with JDK 1.8, install screen crashes and we get below message

The server has been disconnected form the session due to an unexpected error: "Unable to transform src image". If the session is still running, you may attempt to re-join it.

This problem is seen when connected to Solaris SPARC 11.3 via Gnome desktop Manager - connecting using a StarNet xclient (or Reflection X Manager) on a Windows 7 PC

xsession-errors.log shows this:

gnome-settings-daemongnome-session: Fatal IO error nwam-manager: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server time-slider-notify: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server 1xx.2x.xx.x7:0.
