Connections From z/OS Fail With "Unexpected Value" or "Undefined Error" When Using JDBC Version 11g or Above (Doc ID 2219003.1)

Symptoms

Connecting to a 12c database from a front-end z/OS machine is successful when using the 10.2 JDBC driver.
However, when using the 11.1 (or above) JDBC driver, the connection fails with:

java.sql.SQLException: Internal - Unexpected value (from the 11.1.0.7 driver)
or
java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: IO Error: Undefined Error (from the 11.2.0.4 driver)
