Symptoms

After 11.1.1.8.0 Patch11+ Upgrade, CAS fails to start with: "problem with class file or dependent class; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/jasig/cas/authentication/handler/AuthenticationHandler"

The following error is seen in the application server logs during startup:

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'centralAuthenticationService' defined in file [C:\Oracle\Middleware\WCS\bin\cas-spring-configuration\applicationContext.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'authenticationManager' while setting constructor argument; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'authenticationManager' defined in class path resource [deployerConfigContext.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'primaryAuthenticationHandler' while setting constructor argument; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.CannotLoadBeanClassException: Error loading class [com.fatwire.wem.sso.cas.plugin.CSAuthenticationHandler] for bean with name 'primaryAuthenticationHandler' defined in class path resource [deployerConfigContext.xml]: problem with class file or dependent class; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/jasig/cas/authentication/handler/AuthenticationHand
