Unable to Create Datasource on WebLogic Server 12.2.1 Using Microsoft Delivered JDBC Driver (Doc ID 2249994.1)

Symptoms

On WLS 12.2.1.0.0 with RHEL 6, JDK 1.8.0_121 and database version: SQL Server 2008

When trying to configure a generic datasource on Weblogic Server from the Admin Console, the following driver is being used for this purpose -  sqljdbc4.jar (JDBC Driver delivered by Microsoft).

When activating the changes, receives the following exception on the Admin Console:

 The alternative to use Weblogic delivered driver for SQL Server is not acceptable to the customer.

Changes

Non SSL connection works as expected.  The only change is that the connection from Weblogic Server to MS SQL has to be on SSL
