EJB 2.1 Application in WebLogic 12.2.1.2 Throws Nested/Wrapped Exception in Cluster (Doc ID 2272735.1)

Symptoms

After upgrading to Weblogic 12.2.1.2, for EJB 2.1 applications, "Application" exception thrown from an EJB method when invoked locally is propagated to application wrapped with RemoteEJBInvokeException which prevents existing application code to catch its own "Application" exception.  

This only happens in a cluster and not a standalone environment.
