How to Change Metaspace for the JVM of SQL Developer (Doc ID 2277986.1)

Applicable to JDK 1.8+ which is default for SQL Developer 4.2+

Goal

While using SQL Developer 4.2+ with Java 1.8+, following memory limitations by adding the following directives to the config file C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\sqldeveloper\4.2.0\product.conf has been set.

These settings are shown in the VisualVM Overview tab.
Looking at the Monitor tab in VisualVM the maximum heap size correctly reflects the Java heap settings, but the maximum Metaspace size remains at 1 GB.

Given that the default size for Metaspace is unlimited, where does the 1 GB limit come from, and how to change it ?
