Last updated on DECEMBER 21, 2022

Applies to:

Java SE JDK and JRE - Version 6 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Is it possible or supported to run web applications using WebStart or Java Plugin from a network share?

Is it viable to avoid installing Java on several hundred individual client desktops by sharing out the Java SE software from a network share, which the client desktops can access to run WebStart or the Java Plugin remotely?

When attempting run Java WebStart remotely, using a remote JNLP and auto proxy, many errors are encountered (below).  Is there a way to configure it so that Java WebStart or Java Plugin can run remotely?
