Oracle API Gateway Will Not Start As Non-Root User After Installation and Configuration Performed to Allow For Access to Default Ports (Doc ID 2282928.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 07, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle API Gateway - Version 11.1.2.1.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

After installation and configuration of the 64 bit version of Oracle API Gateway 11.1.2.4.0 as root user to have access to the default SSL port.

As having the installation as root is a security risk, it is necessary to have the service accessed as a non-root user. The steps for this are provided in the Oracle API Gateway Administrator Guide in the section Run API Gateway as non-root on UNIX/Linux.  The documentation is found at the following URL:

https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E65459_01/admin.1112/e65449/content/admin_non_root.html

After following the steps, an attempt is made to start the service as the specified non-root user.  When this is attempted, the following error is shown:

ERROR [<id>] Error occurred during initialization of VM

and the service will not start.

What is misconfigured in this case to cause this error to occur?
