Java SocketInputStream.socketRead0 of RMI Threads Intermittently Hang During Load (Doc ID 2285034.1)

Last updated on APRIL 05, 2019

Applies to:

Java SE JDK and JRE - Version 8 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Intermittently, during high load, RMI connection threads take a long time to die.  This appears as a connection hang, as thread dumps taken 30 minutes apart show some of the same threads in both dumps.  This intermittently causes the thread count to increase such that the system network handles are maxed out.  The timeout property sun.rmi.transport.tcp.responseTimeout=60s does not work.
