UserManagerException: Unable To Update User Proxy With Status In Progress (Doc ID 2285641.1)

Symptoms

User has a Proxy record which is 'In Progress'. Specifically, this Proxy has been started before the current date( say 2 days ago). Now, User is not permitted to alter the End Date to a Prior Date(move from 31/8 to 29/8) and get following exception:
