Exalogic ZFS Appliance Does Not Come UP With "Error: /var/.migrate is not a directory" Error Message On ILOM Console After Applying July 2017 PSU (Doc ID 2293754.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 14, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software - Version 2.0.6.2.170418 to 2.0.6.3.171017
Linux x86-64
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)
Oracle Virtual Server x86-64

Symptoms

During the patching of Exalogic July 2017 PSU (2.0.6.2.170718 - physical rack), the ZFS storage node appears to patch without any errors yet while logged into the ILOM console, it shows the following error while the system is applying the patch:

"Error: /var/.migrate is not a directory"

ZFS storage head then goes into a reboot loop, causing the "exapatch" script to fail due to the lost of connectivity to the storage node. The patch failed due to "Error: /var/.migrate is not a directory" which is the directory missing.

This issue can be encountered in both Exalogic Linux Physical and Virtual racks while applying July 2017 PSU

Changes

Upgrading the rack with July 2017 PSU.
