Asset type search is failing with UI error (Doc ID 2301264.1)

Blank search for a specific asset type fails in Contributor UI with below UI error.
          "Error occurred while search. Please change your search query and try again... "

In Sites logs, search appears to be completed and search results are  retrieved without any errors.
