"Internal error" message after clicking Application link in BPM Workspace and "Could not locate composite" error in the logs. (Doc ID 2305378.1)

Symptoms

After logging into the BPM workspace and clicking the Applications link you receive an error:

"An internal error has occurred. Please contact the administrator or Oracle support to help"

You might also find the following exception in the server logs:

 

Another error that can caused by this issue is when trying to view a BPMN audit trail a message appears:

"Instance details not available for the selected Instance.  The user may not have permission to view instance details, or it may be a stale instance"
