OHS 12c SSL to WLS Fails with HALF_OPEN_SOCKET_RETRY Errors (Doc ID 2307148.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 26, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle HTTP Server - Version 12.2.1.0.0 and later
Generic (Platform Independent)

Symptoms

When accessing Oracle HTTP Server 12c using https, to reach an application deployed to WebLogic Server, an error is seen in browser shows an Apache bridge error as below:

Failure of Web Server bridge:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds or idempotent set to OFF or method not idempotent

There can be many reasons for that error in the browser, (<Note 1304095.1>), but the key here is a HALF_OPEN_SOCKET_RETRY error in the OHS error log as below:

[OHS] [ERROR:32] [OH99999] [weblogic] [client_id: xxx.xxx.xxx.x] [host_id: hostname] [host_addr: xxx.xx.xxx.xxx] [pid: <PID>] [tid: <TID>] [user: <USERNAME>] [ecid: ecid] [rid: 0] [VirtualHost: main] *******Exception type [HALF_OPEN_SOCKET_RETRY] (attempt to read from disconnected socket:Was unexpected EOF) raised at line 792 of URL.cpp
