WebLogic Admin Startup and Node Manager Issue with SSL - SHA2 Demo Certificates (Doc ID 2309186.1)

Last updated on MARCH 14, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 10.3.6 to 10.3.6
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

New installation of WLS 10.3.6 gives the following error during Admin Server startup:

<Notice> <Security> <BEA-090171> <Loading the identity certificate and private key stored under the alias DemoIdentity from the jks keystore file /opt/oneid/Oracle/Middleware/wlserver_10.3/server/lib/DemoIdentity.jks.>
 <Error> <WebLogicServer> <BEA-000297> <Inconsistent security configuration, java.lang.RuntimeException: Cannot convert identity certificate>
<Emergency> <Security> <BEA-090034> <Not listening for SSL, java.io.IOException: Cannot convert identity certificate.>

Node Manager also will not be reachable even though it starts up using SSL. When we try to enable JSSE for Admin Server and the Node Manager, we can see the following exceptions in the nodemanager.log

After adding the JSSE option "-Dweblogic.security.SSL.enableJSSE=true" for Node manager, received the exception "java.net.UnknownHostException: -Dweblogic.security.SSL.enableJSSE=true"

In some cases, we also encountered an exception for Nodemanager which said that the listen port is not an integer, although the port number was 5556 which did not make any sense. We do not have the error stack for this exception.

Changes

This is an out of the box new installation. No changes were made.
