JSESSIONID Appended on All Vanity URLs Resulting In 404's

Symptoms
The jessionid is appended on all URLs which results in HTTP 404 errors. If we remove the jsessionid from the url the page renders.
We go to our custom website home page, click any drop down or menu item and the new page gets rendered with the jsessionid at the end and we get a 404 error. below is an example of how the page is getting written.
http://example.com/url/path;jsessionid=zgd7Ws_M9FxjMAOxEYVXCDKloVVmNfHns0jQj5E3OBnxtO5eNa4d!-2105134269!1144360419
