On Asset Checkin Receiving Error in sites.log: java.net.MalformedURLException: No Protocol: MyPath (Doc ID 2315155.1)

Symptoms

On WebCenter Sites 12.2.1.2.0 version, checking in a revision-tracked asset in Contributor UI, the following error show in Sites.log:
java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: myPath Error

This error is seen on assets that have a vanity url where the WebRoot Root URL starts with a '/'.
