ADF Application Causes Table's SelectionListener To Stop Working After Migrating From 11g To 12.2.x

After migrating from 22.214.171.124.0 to 12.2.x an ADF application involving treeTable's selectionListener and mandatory field validation the following scenarios occur
Scenario 1: table's component has "immediate" attribute set to "true"
a. the selectionListener attached to the table does not fire;
b. it is not possible to expand nodes when using a Tree Table component.
Scenario 2: table's component has "immediate" attribute set to "false"
a. newly created empty row(s) in the table throw mandatory field validation errors even before the user starts filling in values;
b. what in (a) does not work even by setting "SkipValidation" to "true" in the page definition.
