Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Portal - Version 11.1.1.9.0 to 12.2.1.3.180417
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Performing a search on a facet in WebCenter Portal with SES is showing "0 Search Results For '%'" but should return results.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Configure WebCenter Portal with SES

2. Configure some facets:

  a. Connect to WebCenter Portal as an administrator user
  b. Go to Administration -> Tools and Services -> Search
  c. Enabled some facets
e.g.: Author, Portal, Tags, Mimetype, Last Modified Date or any custom facet

3. Test a search using '%' wildcard:

  a. Connect to WebCenter Portal and navigate to a portal
  b. Open the search box, type '%' and click enter
  c. Note you will get results under Everything
In my case: 96 search results for '%'
  d. Note the facets show results too
  For example, in my case:

For Author facet the results are:
  sysadmin (22)
  weblogic (21)
  wcadmin (13)
  etc.

  e. Now try to refine the search by selecting one of the facet results
  e.g. in the case:

  Author
  wcadmin (13)

  f. Note the search now shows : 13 search results for '%'
This is correct results as expected.

4. Test a blank search.

  a. Connect to WebCenter Portal and navigate to a portal
  b. Open the search box and click enter
Do not provide any values in the search

  c. Note you will get results under Everything
In this case: 96 search results for '%'
  d. Note the facets show results too
  For example, in this case:

For Author facet the results show:
  sysadmin (22)
  weblogic (21)
  wcadmin (13)
  etc.

  e. Now try to refine the search by selecting one of the facet results
  e.g. in this case:

  Author
  wcadmin (13)

  f. Note the search now shows :

      0 search results for '%'

This is unexpected as we know there were 13 items for this refined search.
