Symptoms
After upgrading to Java SE 8 update 151, services that use REST fail to function. Sometimes an error like this one is thrown in the browser:
but more often the REST calls just fail. No runtime errors are thrown. It appears that the responses coming back from the server are mangled or malformed in some fashion.
Tomcat v7.x, or one of its derivatives such as Bobcat, is used as the server.
Changes
Upgrading to Java SE 8u151 or 7u161 or later.
