OUD 11g / 12c - Error When Running the Restore Command - "An error occurred while attempting to examine the set of backups contained in backup directory ... No backup directory descriptor file was found at..." (Doc ID 2346132.1)

Symptoms

 After successfully running the backup command with the -a or --backUpAll option, when attempting to restore that backup, the restore command returns error -

An error occurred while attempting to examine the set of backups contained in backup directory ... No backup directory descriptor file was found at...

 

For example -

The backup command is run with the backupAll option -

$ ./backup --backupAll --compress --backupDirectory /tmp/backup.test

[07/Jan/2018:01:57:36 +0000] category=JEB severity=NOTICE msgID=8847446 msg=Archived: 00000000.jdb

The backup can not be restored with the restore command and returns the following error -

$ ./restore --backupDirectory /tmp/backup.test

[07/Jan/2018:18:18:49 +0000] category=TOOLS severity=SEVERE_ERROR msgID=10748208 msg=An error occurred while attempting to examine the set of backups contained in backup directory /tmp/backup.test: No backup directory descriptor file was found at /tmp/backup.test/backup.info (id=262451)
