Seeing "proxy-retrieve aborted the request" in the Oracle Traffic Director Logs (Doc ID 2359604.1)

Symptoms

Intermittently user gets 500 error when accessing application via Oracle Traffic Director (OTD). When this occurs the OTD logs has the following:

[2018-02-01T04:25:42-05:00] [otd_ConfigName_MachineName] [ERROR:32] [OTD-10274] [] [ecid: ECID] [rid: 0] [pid: PID] for host xx.xx.xx.xx trying to POST /example/Inbound/Services/InboundWS, func_exec reports: Function proxy-retrieve aborted the request without setting the status code

After increasing the logging level for OTD to TRACE:32 there is extra information logged just prior to above error:

[2018-02-01T04:25:42-05:00] [otd_ConfigName_MachineName] [TRACE:1] [OTD-10974] [] [ecid: ECID] [rid: 0] [pid: PID] for host xx.xx.xx.xx trying to POST /example/Inbound/Services/InboundWS, service-http reports: client disconnected before remote server responded
