ODI 12c Debug Session Fails with "java.lang.NullPointerException" when Using Non-Supervisor User (Doc ID 2367067.1)

Symptoms

In Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) 12.2.1, a user without Supervisor privileges starts a Debug session and receives the following error:

ODI-26066: An unexpected error has occurred.

java.lang.NullPointerException
at
com.sunopsis.security.BasicDwgSecurityStrategy.checkInstanceAccessPrivilegeOnParents(BasicDwgSecurityStrategy.java:1182)

The issue can be reproduced with the following steps:

  1. Log into ODI as a user with no Supervisor privileges.
  2. Attempt to start a Debug session (right-click executable object, select Debug, and accept settings).
  3. Debug session starts, however, a popup window with the java.lang.NullPointerException error is shortly displayed.
