Enabling Partial Page Refresh (PPR) When Consuming a Web Service Data Source (Doc ID 2370637.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 27, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Portal - Version 11.1.1.8.8 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Details on how to consume a web service data source in Oracle WebCenter Portal will not be discussed here. You will find detail documentation here:

Oracle WebCenter Portal 11g - Working with Data Presenter

Oracle WebCenter Portal 12c - Working with Web Service Data Controls

The basic steps in consuming a web service data source involve the following, that may be performed at a global level (Shared Assets) or at a Portal level (Assets in Portal):

  1. Create a data control to retrieve data from a web service data source
  2. Consume the data control in a task flow
  3. Add the task flow to a page in the Portal.

In 11g, when the task flow is added to a page in Portal, by default, a full page refresh is enforced whenever the web service data control is used.

In 12c, when the task flow is added to a page in Portal, by default, neither a full page refresh nor a partial page refresh is enforced. In essence, no output from the web service data source is rendered in the task flow until a page refresh (via browser or any other way) occurs. This issue is reported as a product defect internal Bug 27616848.

This document provides steps to enable partial page refresh to overcome the above mentioned behaviors. The web service source used in the example below is attached to this document if a sample test service is needed.
