Embedded Asset Link Not Rendering Vanity URL

Symptoms
Rendering an Asset Link (as embedded in CKEditor) no longer renders a Vanity URL as it did in Sites 12.2.1.0.0 when using a Controller that utilizes the AssetReader interface. Previously, just rendering the associated attribute with &{asset.attribute} would display any asset links with their Vanity URLs, but in later versions this only renders the long URL and requires the use of insite:edit or render:stream to render the Vanity URL.
Changes
Environment was upgraded from 12.2.1.0.0 to some subsequent version.
