Symptoms
Starting WebLogic 12.1.3.0.160719 default BEA Hostname verifier also supports the wildcard ssl certificates however as per below documentation the default BEA hostname verifier should not support the wildcard certificates. WildCard certificates should only work when "weblogic.security.utils.SSLWLSWildcardHostnameVerifier" is configured with Custom Hostname Verifier for Hostname Verification in Admin Console
