Last updated on MARCH 24, 2019

Applies to:

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In a Proxy RDBMS Workflow search is failing with "Result Code: 34 (Invalid DN Syntax)".
i.e.

What works:

$ ./ldapsearch -p 1390 -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w <PASSWORD> -b ou=groups,o=example.com --sizeLimit 1000 "(member=20001*)" dn member
dn: cn=801,ou=Groups,o=example.com
member: 20001
member: 20002
member: 20004
member: 20003

dn: cn=804,ou=Groups,o=example.com
member: 20001

dn: cn=803,ou=Groups,o=example.com
member: 20001
member: 20002

dn: cn=802,ou=Groups,o=example.com
member: 20003
member: 20002
member: 20001

dn: cn=806,ou=Groups,o=example.com
member: 20001

What does not work:

$ ./ldapsearch -p 1390 -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w <PASSWORD> -b ou=groups,o=example.com --sizeLimit 1000 "(member=20001)" dn member
SEARCH operation failed
Result Code: 34 (Invalid DN Syntax)
Additional Information: The provided value "20001" could not be parsed as a valid distinguished name because the digit '2' is not allowed as the first character of an attribute name unless the name is specified as an OID or the ds-cfg-allow-attribute-name-exceptions configuration option is enabled

The search filter seems to be wrongly parsed of dn syntax.
