REP-178 Using Rwclient.bat From Remote Server With Inconsistent Rwdiag.bat Results (Doc ID 2429146.1)

Last updated on APRIL 26, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Reports Developer - Version 11.1.2.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Attempting to run report from remote server via rwclient.bat fails with:

REP-178: Could not connect to reports server.

When run "rwdiag.bat", sometimes the remote Reports Server shows up, but sometimes not. It has inconsistent results.

For Example:

dos>rwdiag.bat -findall

Reading the rwnetwork.conf from :<DOMAIN_HOME>
\config\fmwconfig\components\ReportsToolsComponent\reptools1\rwnetwork.conf
Broadcast mechanism used to locate servers
------------------------------------------
Channel address = 228.5.6.7
Channel port = 14021

(1) Name = rep_local : Type = server : Host = <localdomain>
(2) Name = rep_remote : Type = server : Host = <remotedomain>

Then another attempt of rwdiag.bat will return:

Reading the rwnetwork.conf from :<DOMAIN_HOME>
\config\fmwconfig\components\ReportsToolsComponent\reptools1\rwnetwork.conf
Broadcast mechanism used to locate servers
------------------------------------------
Channel address = 228.5.6.7
Channel port = 14021

(1) Name = rep_local : Type = server : Host = <localdomain>

This occurs with both multicast and namingService mechanisms.
