Opening 12c OIM or SOA Web Service Endpoints in the Browser Redirects to "ws_utc" URL and Shows "404 Not Found" and/or Error with "The requested URL /ws_utc/ was not found on this server." (Doc ID 2447363.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 05, 2019

Applies to:

Identity Manager - Version 12.2.1.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In your 11g environments you were able to use the browser to access some web service endpoints that come with the OIM installation.

For example, you might have used the request service endpoint to test the expected input and output of the operations that you plan to use when creating a custom approval composite. To do this, you would access a location like:<oimFrontEndURL>/reqsvc/reqsvc .  Or you could be using the identity service endpoint to test the expected input and output of the built in identity functions that you plan to use when creating a custom approval composite.  To do this, you would access a location like: <SOAConfigSOAPurl>/integration/services/IdentityService/identity

When testing the same functionality in 12c, you now get redirected to a URL with "ws_utc" and could see the following errors:

Error 1

A 404 Not Found error with content like:

Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.4.5 404 Not Found

The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.

If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.

Error 2

A 404 Not Found error with content like:

The requested URL /ws_utc/ was not found on this server.

Changes

In 12c, WebLogic has added an enhanced Web Services Test Client for testing advanced features of Web services.  As a result of this change, certain types of web service endpoints when accessed in a browser will redirect to the Web Services Test Client which has a location which contains a leading "/ws_utc/begin.do?wsdlUrl=" in the URL.

For example if the location used in 11g was like:

http://<HOST>:<PORT>/reqsvc/reqsvc

The new functionality would redirect this to:

http://<HOST>:<PORT>/ws_utc/begin.do?wsdlUrl=http%3A%2F%2F<HOST>%3A<PORT>%2Freqsvc%2Freqsvc%3FWSDL

This new functionality does not impact the run time behavior when the services are used internally. The redirection only occurs when the endpoints are accessed in the browser.
