JVM Crash While Writing Heapdump (Doc ID 2465493.1)

Symptoms

Java SE 8 crashes when writing a heapdump.  How the heap dump is triggered does not matter.  The crash is seen when using the jmap utility to trigger the heapdump or when running the JVM with the runtime option -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError to trigger the heapdump (when an OOM occurs).  The crash occurs rarely, while graphing classes in the java_lang_Class::signers method.  This is illustrated in the HotSpot error log below:
