Last updated on NOVEMBER 14, 2020

Applies to:

Java SE JDK and JRE - Version 7 to 8
Microsoft Windows CE

Symptoms

The JRE Installer fails to disable the Java plugin when installing with the 'WEB_JAVA=Disable' installer command line option.

'WEB_JAVA=Disable' is supposed to disable the Java Plugin.  However, after installing the JRE, the Internet Explorer (IE) "Manage Add-ons page" shows the installed Java Plug-in version is still listed as an IE Add-on.

The issue can be reproduced with the following steps:
1. Install the JRE via command line with the 'WEB_JAVA=Disable' installer option.  For example, the below runs a silent install (/s) of JRE Enterprise Installer 8u202, with the specified option:

2. After the install completes, open the IE Manage Add-ons page.

3. Notice the Java Plugin is listed.
