When Adding An AD User To Capture Workspace Of Client Profile, NullPointerException Occurs (Doc ID 2519373.1)

Symptoms

Having users defined in AD and added in EM under Security|Application Roles to Capture, when in Workspace configuration in Capture Console, adding these users to the workspace security or to a client profile, triggers a NullPointerException.
In addition, when adding a WorkSpaceViewer only, this user also gets the WorkSpaceManager roles, which is incorrect.
The following error is seen in the log file:
