Goal
This note will provide the steps to run the WCC Administration Applications (Admin Applets) available in the Web Interface via Browsers. Browsers have removed standards based plugin support (eliminating Java plugin). Information about JNLP Java Web Start an be found here: https://java.com/en/download/faq/java_webstart.xml
Important: Read the following document for a complete understanding of Admin Applets and Configuration of Applets: How to Configure/Modify WebCenter Content (WCC) 11g-12c Local User Authentication ("sysadmin"), Configure and Run Admin Applications (Applets) from Command Line (StandAlone) (<Document 1265076.1>)
Browsers
Dropped support for NPAPI plugins (JAVA) and now support Java Network Launch Protocol (JNLP)
- Firefox (Mozilla) - Version 52:March 2017
- ESR (Extended Support Release) - Version 60:May 2018
- Chrome (Google) - Versions 45: September 2015
- Microsoft - legacy Internet Explorer (IE) supports NPAPI (including IE 11 on Windows 10), however, Edge never supported NPAPI
11g/Early 12c
Removing the standards based plugin support resulted in issues with all versions of WCC. Admin Applets in 11g and early releases of 12c may not launch from browser at all as newer browsers have been moved to Java Network Launch Protocol (JNLP).
- Internet Explorer 11 has been successful in launching the applets depending on the browser settings.
- Add the WCC CS URL in IE Browser's Internet Options->Security->Trusted Site-> Site
Alternatively, customers can run the Admin Tools as standalone Applications.
See Knowledge Note: How to Configure/Modify WebCenter Content (WCC) 11g-12c Local User Authentication ("sysadmin"), Configure and Run Admin Applications (Applets) from Command Line (StandAlone) (<Document 1265076.1>)
