OPatch Returns With error Code = 1 Issuing Lsinv (Doc ID 2536543.1)

When attempting to issue opatch lsinv, in preparation for the application of a goldengate patch, customer get's this message:

rac1:<gg_home>/OPatch $ ./opatch lsinv -invPtrLoc <gg_home>/oraInst.loc -oh <oracle_home>>
The Oracle Home <gg_home> is not OUI based home. Please give proper Oracle Home.
OPatch returns with error code = 1

This is the complete last set of suggested steps to the customer::

servername:<gg_home>/OPatch $ export ORACLE_HOME=<gg_home>

servername:<gg_home>/OPatch $ echo $ORACLE_HOME
<gg_home>

rac1:<oracle_home>/dicloud $ mkdir -p <oracle_home>/dicloud/oraInventory

rac1:<oracle_home>/dicloud $ cd <gg_home>

servername:<gg_home> $ vi oraInst.loc
inventory_loc=<oracle_home>/dicloud/oraInventory
inst_group=oinstall

rac1:<gg_home> $ cd <gg_home>/OPatch

rac1:<gg_home>/OPatch $ ./opatch lsinv -invPtrLoc <gg_home>/oraInst.loc -oh /ggate/ADIPCage>
The Oracle Home <gg_home> is not OUI based home. Please give proper Oracle Home.
