Starting WLS After Quick Install: "java Weblogic.Server" Fails With "Error: Could not find or load main class weblogic.Server" (Doc ID 2584959.1)

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 12.2.1.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On : 12.2.1.3.0 version, Oracle WebLogic Server

Executing this command fails:


JAVA_HOME/bin/java weblogic.Server

Error: Could not find or load main class weblogic.Server


The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

Refer to the below section of WL 12.2.1.3 'README.txt' in fmw_12.2.1.3.0_wls_quick_Disk1_1of1.zip

2. Create a new directory to store the domain and start the server.

Linux
  $ mkdir domain
  $ cd domain
  $ JAVA_HOME/bin/java weblogic.Server
